> OOP doesn't have to do this, but a lot of OOP code does this. i think that is a good point. there is not a single succinct definition of OO when one looks at the various ways it has been actually implemented in languages: Smalltalk is not the same thing as Java. I think the ways in which they differ can have a serious impact on what it means in the end to "be" OO, especially when contrasting with a different paradigm (be it FP or Declarative or Procedural or whathaveyou).
