Sorry to disagree, but the most recent changes I know about it (less
than one month ago) are (in 1.2):

  * the old behaviour of ^ will not be supported anymore (and users
will just have to use calls to meta)
  * and will be replaced by the current behaviour of #^
  * #^ remains but becomes deprecated

So the OP is wrong, AFAIK.
