I have come across people who sometimes refer to the entire box as the "CPU" or "Hard Drive" when they actually mean the entire system. Maybe (hopefully) thats what he meant and it was simply a language/terminology issue. If not, then I guess he will have a bit of a learning curve ahead of him....unless someone can find him and "enlighten" him.
But hey....how about that. A Linux distro that is installed on a hard drive with no real specific hardware defined other than the basic, lowest common denominators of ide/33, ps/2 mouse, vga video, basic kernel etc and when you attach it to a machine, first boot would go through the probes and configurations necessary to modify the kernel, drivers, modules etc as if it were installed "normally". Never thought of this before now but maybe its not such a strange idea?
Open Enterprise Solutions Linux & Open Source Solutions for Business Johnny Stork, BA Calgary, AB Canada www.openenterprise.ca ------ original message ------ From: Garth Meisel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sun Feb 02 06:49:36 PST 2003 Subject: Re: (clug-talk) Calgary-based linux advocate I think it's very key to find this person and explain to him that you cannot
simply install Linux on a HD and then expect it to work properly when you
install the hard drive in your system.
