-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey All,
We're just making some updates to the CLUG website (www.clug.ca) and have added the distribution library again. However, our list is a bit stale. We'd like to get a current list of who has what. For those new members or those new to CLUG here's what it's all about; The purpose is to get Linux into your hot little hands and onto your machine as easily and painlessly as possible. It is meant to save you and the distribution maintainers bandwidth, something that costs money when we are talking 700 megabytes of data per disc. Several Linux distributions are available for download in ISO format so that you may then burn them into your very own copy of that distribution on CD-R. The distribution library is a virtual library as we have no central location for it. This actually may work to some people's benefit. The hope is to get enough participants to create a network around the Calgary region so that folks don't have to travel very far to get what they are after. So, we would like a list of volunteers (that we will post on the website under 'CLUG Resources->Distribution Library' or http://clug.ca/nuke/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6). Please indicate the following: - - Distribution name - - Distribution version - - number of CD-ROM's (DVD's, floppies, etc) - - whether it is a store bought copy or an ISO - if an ISO, whether it has been verified (MD5 Checksum) - - whether you are willing to make a copy (have a CD-burner) - - contact info so the person looking may get a hold of you Typically if you are requesting a copy of someone's distribution, it is customary to provide them with an equal number of blank CD-R's (of their preference) in return. We would appreciate it if no money is charged for this unless it is an agreed upon amount in lieu of blanks. We know that people will be uneasy with listing phone numbers, addresses and email on the website (rightfully so), so the Executive may compile an offline list to protect people somewhat. We're not really sure of the best way to handle this. Any suggestions? We could work it that the person looking contact one of us, we forward the request on to whoever has the distro in question and leave it up to them to make arrangements. In the past this has worked out pretty well so that when the newest version of whichever distro comes out and we have one copy locally on hand. The download servers and mirrors usually get pretty busy. This may be preferable to those folks out there still on dial-up or if the servers they are going to are unbearably slow. - -- Jarrod Major CLUG President GPG Fingerprint: FA4A 1EA3 A0EE A842 07BB 804C 0090 14F6 BE6E DE3D Registered Linux User: #224211 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iQCVAwUBQAY2WwCQFPa+bt49AQLXJgP8DJMEF9nSNBbupgpOJJC3YnpUddt8jbPJ q7HReA7dbTHsuAxxaOm8gkS4TCl2lFroy7X0OlumMkIw2NK2ozVwrCtNsmfTXJ4/ efUCYImN78c0x2kUuwikTBvd1KruTSrtv7DzBwYzqzJVQgcc5fwG+LW6mATLeECM 8pCiiSxZp4A= =cPoT -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca
