Just to add my $0.02 I think this is a great idea but I agree that this would take several, (3 - 4) people dedicated to this to get it going.  What would be needed is several sponsors to help fund this operation.  I was thinking something "better" than convergence 2003.  Having a gym filled with open source projects and such.  We can have some local businesses set up booths and such but the main goal is to support Linux and it's friends, (example: java groups, CUUG, vfxweb, nexus, tech headhunters, colleges, universities...).  Also several sections can be setup to offer some informative presentations and hands on activities.

I remembered from the last Convergence that most booths where trying to make a sale, I think it would be best to avoid this.  It should be a place to share ideas and networking with other organizations.

This might seem like something that is not feasable to many people but I know a club at the UofC that holds an annual festival called the Otafest, http://otafest.com.  I know the original founding members of the DOA club and originally their group was smaller than CLUG is currently.  I know this can be a *BIG* push for the Linux community and I for one would find it refreshing to have a convention, conference, fair, festival... aka GEEKFest that goes back to offering things back to the community or offering "eye candy" rather than "making the sale"
