Is Linux a Hobby System? Yes.
Is Linux a Server System? Yes. Is Linux a Business Desktop? Yes. Linux is more configureable than any other OS than has ever come before, this is what makes it such a great system for those of us who like to get it "just so" or mess around with and make it do wierd and wonderful stuff. i.e a "Hobby System" However, that is also going to make it a perfect Busness Desktop for companies who want a tool that can be locked down to do the job and nothing else. To my mind the two things that are the greatest stumbling blocks to widespread adoption are... 1. Most PCs dont come with it preinstalled. 2. The add-on software that people buy will not usually run on Linux without WINE or something and when it does it needs something more than "clicky" installs. The second problem used to be even worse with browsers that wouldn't run flash or whatever but that has "mostly" been dealt with.
