If your external mouse is USB, this can be done.  If it's PS/2, don't
do it!  The touchpad is PS/2 also, and trying to take signals from two
PS/2 devices at the same time confuses the living daylights out of
your BIOS.

If the external is USB, google (groups.google.com) for "corepointer".
