If you are looking for something cross platform, you could just use OOo since it is free, although it might not fit on your usb key. In that case I would suggest saving your documents as pdf files or even word files if that doesn't put too much strain on your concience. As for presentations, I would suggest exporting them to html since that is truly cross plaform, and everyone has a web browser these days.
