There are quite a lot of opinions on this.  I don't usually bother with
a seperate /home as most users won't have an actual account on the box
(email, samba, ftp/sftp etc is better with LDAP)

I also prefer reiser to ext3, but either is a good choice.

The answer is a solid maybe.  Active Directory is huge.  I am sure you
have heard this before, but it all depends on what you *need*.  If you
have not used any of the LDAP functions of AD, then chances are you may
not need to worry about openLDAP.  HAving said that I picked up a good
book on migrating from Windows to Linux on the server.  This book was
very good in that it did not expect a high level of linux experience,
but it did not try to avoid things like LDAP.  I forgot what the exact
title was, but I will check when I get home.
