Well...my voyage to happiness has increased. We recently picked up a 54 Ghz wireless router for $15 (after rebate). It is basically for DRAGON (our 3E-PC) and for the first couple days it was kind of making me mad because the router wasn't doing quite what I wanted to do.
I think that is because I was trying to TELL it what to do instead of letting it do part of what I wanted and then have me do the rest. Well..tonight after some more fiddling I finally have it functioning properly. I have it sitting off a standard router (eventually to be replaced by something IPCop-ish) and then off of a switch then it runs its own DHCP server (I got tired of fighting it) to handle WiFi connections. Part of the frustration I was having was that my server is acting as the DHCP & local DNS server, but the WiFi router was not passing the information to the connected clients...although I must say...my Linux box didn't misbehave once through this whole ordeal beside a misconfiguration address or two when I was screwing around. I know this doesn't have a lot to do with Linux, but I thought I would share my successes for those out there that might be working on stuff but are feeling frustrated and need some encouragement. Just step away from the tech for a little bit.. have a Coke or tea...and then let a calmer head prevail. Hope all is well with everyone.
