Hi All,

I have been searching around for a half decent colour multifunction to
replace the variety of printers, scanners & stuff around the home
office.

I came across a deal at Best Buy for something that looks like it
would meet my needs & at a great price point...plus...I have gift
cards o it woudl mak it even cheaper still. According to teh specs it
says that Linux is supported but only with printing. But I would like
to use the scan to email or file functions & faxing, etc. as well. I
have checked the SANE website but i don't see the model listed, so it
could be that it is a new one & support just isn't available trhough
SANE yet. Also checked a few other links, but nothing that points me
to anything spectacular.

What I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences with Canon
devices & running thm on Linux. I am sure the printing will be mor
ethan fine, so not so much interested in that, but more so with the
other features. I know Canon has never been to keen on support Linux
that much & I would prefer to throw my mony to someone who does...like
Samsung. Looking for any kind of feedback anyone would be willing to
offer. Would likely end up being connected to a CentOS server
eventually with a virtalized WIndows server environment o that might
be passabl if not a pain in the arse. Would mostly likley be
connecting with a *buntu workstation as far as day to day stuff goes.
As a last resort I have also thought of getting the old Netook out &
loading Windows on it (shudders!!!) & connecting to device to do
scanning & such.

MOdel is MF8380CDW & the link to the deal at Best buy is

If anyone can suggest a comporable item at around teh same price by
Samsung or even HP I would be interested as well. I am particularly
interested in auto-duplexing, scannign though th ADF & storing in
folder or even through email if I have to.
