I can't speak to that model, but I've been using a Canon PIXMA iP4000 printer iP4100 outside North America) with Linux for a while. When I first had it, it was unuseable with Linux, but I eventually found that Canon in Japan had Linux drivers for some of their printers. It was later incorporated into the Gutenprint driver set. Resolution was limited to 600dpi so it sucked for photos (my old Epson Stylus Color 860 produced better photos than the iP4000). Unfortunately, since I updated to Kubuntu 12.04, I seem to have serious connection issues with my iP4000, though whether that's due to the new Gutenprint driver or Kubuntu 12.04's printer configuration, I haven't yet found out. There is a commercial alternative: Turboprint handles many of the Canon printers, with much better resolution than the free drivers - much better for photos.. Whether it can handle the other aspects of a multifunction machine, I can't say.
