It really depends.  Hospice and Medicare cannot cover for the same reason--ie if the resident has cancer and is terminal and is admitted to your facility because he cannot care for himself at home, then you cannot have both services.  The resident may want to dismiss hospice to get Medicare coverage if he meets requirements and you will be providing a daily skilled service.  The Medicare benefit is really better since it covers room and board.  If the resident is admitted to your facility for a different reason--ie a cancer patient who fractures their hip and requires post surgical treatment and rehab--then they are covered by both services.  You need to investigate and ask allot of questions.

There is not one simple answer...
MC/PPS depends upon a skilled necessity....soooooo
What is the diagnosis?
Was this person on Hospice prior to being hospitalized?  Iif so for what end stage disease?  Did this person (if on Hospice have perhaps a fall that fx. a hip and now requires skilled interventions?

Subject: can this resident be PPS?

I had heard from our previous controller that if resident has an order for hospice care let's say prior to readmission to SNF, (that means while resident was still in the hospital), that resident should not or can not be put on PPS. What is your comment on this? What would you do? Thank you!
