We send technical ineligibility letters to all residents with Medicare numbers on admission. Even though they go online to verify there is not a number I am not sure I agree with them. What if they had a number and we didn’t know it till some relative or someone came out of the woodwork? I have seen some weird things-wrong name spelling etc. Anyone else have an opinion about this they would like to share? However, in our structure this is their decision to make not mine. All residents are verbally notified by either the DON or SW during the screen they do prior to admission and the letter follows. I do the determination, Billing prepares the letter, I sign it and they mail it.

Do you send technical ineligibility letters to all residents on admission or on the ones with Medicare? The regulation is that this kind of letter should be send on the day of admission or before. Do you send these lketters or the admission office?
