I certainly don't think it hurts to get a flu shot while on interferon, however, my understanding is that interferon is a potent anti-viral drug becasue of its immune system boosting capabilities. (It has been given to HIV patients in combination with other things.) I was on Interferon for four years and during that time never had a cold or the flu, despite having them both regularly in prior years. It was one of the very few positive aspects of my Interferon experience! My oncologist once told me that there were attempts to develop an interferon nasal spray to fight the common cold, but it was too expensive.
Anyway, you may have less need of a flu shot while on Interferon. But by all means ask your oncologist. Maybe Richard R. has an opinion?
