Dear fellow cml-ers,
I was very disappointed and even a little bit shocked, when my onc phoned me
yesterday telling me the results of the last PCR. I am on gleevec since march
2003, started with 400 mg and changed into 600 after a couple of years because
of not satisfying results. Since 11 months he PCR tests had as a result: CML
not detectable. Of course I was glad and because I was and still am full of
energy, I thought I won the fight against the CML. But yesterday my onc told me
that the last result was that CML was detectable again, in his words: nothing
to be worried about, but some action must be undertaken. He told me to continue
the 600 mg and to have another test in October. If then CML is not detectable
again, I will continue taking the 600 mg every day. A mutation analysis will be
made (how does that work) in order to see if my body still responds to gleevec.
If CML is detectable again and I still respond to gleevec, I will have to take
800 mg every day. If CML is still detectable and gleevec does not work anymore,
I will get other medication.
I would like to know if I can do something myself in order to have good results
(food recommendation??) I live in southern Europe (Italy and the south of
France) and my results always are worse in the summer. Could sunshine be of
some influence??
Then a last question. Due to surgery - had because of colon cancer 12 years
ago, I live with a colostoma. I irrigate my colon every 48 hours, and have no
problems with my 'handicap' in daily life. Should I wait a certain time after
have taken gleevec befor irrigating??? How many hours???
Thank you in advance for every suggestion. I am doing fine, I have the well
known side effects (especially cramps and sometimes nausea) and do not like the
idea of increasing the quantity of gleevec....
Best wishes to you all - this site is great!
Ciao,
Rien
