I think you got it topsy-turvey, Jack.
Before 1.1.10 or thereabouts TCPLISTEN had to be a first stage. It no
longer must be; you can use the input stream to throttle the number of
pipelines it spawns. Melinda and Jeff Savitt know a war story about this.
But this version requires plastic pipes, aka runtime library aka
Princeton distribution. In z/VM 6.3 TCPLISTEN must be a first stage.
