Nate, What is the fluid capacity of the transmission? If it is a quart or more, you have some margin for error. Try a different brand of fluid-another brand might be better at sealing the leak. Maybe you can wait until the season is over.
If it as I remember it, the housing just has the shaft in it, and it is probably the bearing/seal on the front of the shaft that is the real culprit. While it is out, replace the shaft coupling if it is original and check the fuel tank. Best of luck!
