Yea, I’m all for leaving well enough alone, but my concern is that with this 
model there is no inner wire for the furler.  The furler is the forestay.  If 
the top or bottom assembly give out, the forestay is gone.   So I’m thinking a  
little preventive maintenance is prudent.  

 

I get the feeling this make/model is relatively rare, but hoping someone out 
there has worked on it.

Not malfunctioning?  I'd leave it alone. Save up for a replacement. The new 
furlers work much easier.
