Rick,

My boat has both endorsements, recreational and coastwise trade. I will
readily admit that being a first time "tour boat" I don't know all the in's
and out's but a call to the USCG indicated that a safe vessel inspection
was all that was required. The insurance company also indicated that as
long as I was complying with the USCG regs that they had no other
requirements. The insurance company did indicate that if I provided
services for more than 20 customers per year that I would need commercial
insurance.

I have only recently recieved the endorsement and as such have not had the
inspection performed but the USCG didn't seem to make it a big deal. I'll
let you know though.

Additionally, the endorsements will stay with the boat indefinitely but the
requirements are independent of one another based on use. If no paying
customers are on board then it is recreational (no licensed captain is
required and no inspection).

Does anybody else have expierience with inspections?
