I think it differs from insurance company to insurance company. My current company, Progressive, does not ask about stoves and in fact does not require surveys. However, it likes you to have a stake in the game with high deductibles and relatively low upper limits. (It used to be 15-20K. I don’t know what it is now.) If you try for a low deductible, the rate goes way up.

They go strictly by the numbers, and those stoves have a very bad track record for claims. It is one of the "hot" items they look for in the insurance survey. The other issue with alcohol is that the flames it makes are virtually invisible, which can also lead to unintended consequences.
