I would not be too worried about buying without seeing the boat however it is not really necessary. This list gives each of us a lot of contacts all over North America in particular. Even one in Mexico!
When we purchased Persistence we made an offer that was subject to survey. The offer was made one hour after I found out the boat was for sale and after a referral by a friend and one conversation on the phone with the owner. This made the survey very important. At the same time fellow lister Harry Hallgring visited the boat for an up close look on my behalf. Harry confirmed that there was nothing that would be nasty but a survey would not point out (odor, etc) and also confirmed an overall impression of the boat. Knowing all the work Harry has done on his current boat and on his J27 before that it really gave me a great confidence in the boat and in the deal Use the list. It is an amazing resource.
