If you really need one-handed adjustment, you can put a bit less friction on the balls (I know that it does not read that well) – it is adjustable on the arm - and you could move the device around. On the other hand, you should never be that busy on the boat that you could not spare a moment to adjust the display (;-). I use much shorter arm (3”? 4”?), so it is easier to do.

Its not one handed to move and it stays pretty much where you set it. The size of your plotter affects the size of the mount, I have an a95 Raymarine. Its heavy on the end of the mount, so go big.
