Yesterday as we were sailing back to the dock one of my crew yelled 'there's a lot of water down here'. I opened the companionway steps and saw water coming out of the top of the sea strainer as the water was reaching the top of it.
I closed the seacock and we manned the manual pump. Once the water was below the floorboards we let the electric do its job. One of the arms that held the lid in place broke at the lower end. Luckily we were aboard and found the leak. There was not excessive corrosion on the strainer, so I don't think the weakness could have been detected. Time to re-think leaving seacocks open when I'm off the boat! -- Joel 301 541 8551
