There is that, you need the ignition-protected version. Given the prevalence of 
propane on newer C&Cs, I wouldn’t use a non-marine alternator on a diesel 
either.

I had the stock Motorola, then I got a marine version 110 amp 10si that got a 
bad bearing, and finally got a 65 amp Balmar that is the best of the bunch.

The point is that not all alternators are safe for use with gasoline present. 
Mounting is a very secondary consideration! :-)
