After building a fiberglass instrument pod for over my companionway I would
consider 5k cheap. Probably took me 20 hours to get the shape right for the
mould and then about 30 or 40 hours for layup, sanding fairing and painting.
Gelcoat would have been more. I spent about $200 on glass and resin. So
multiply that by 10 for sure and would be 2k. Without feeding the kids.

Stus-List Hard bimini?
I got a quote for over 5000 for a hard Bimini smaller than yours!  A dock
neighbor had one made from starboard. Looked pretty nice.

Had my hard top made by Canvas Creations but I heard that the owner died.
Compared to your quote I got ripped off.  I think I paid about $3500.  He
worked with me extensively to get the height and window angles maximized for
functionality and ergonomics. I'm a little mixed on the asthetics though.  It's
hard to maintain an attractive look with enough height and length while also
keeping the usability of the side tracks.  I don't use them but didn't want to
obstruct them.  In retrospect it may have been a better choice to just give
them up.

Hello all,
I am considering replacing our sunbrella bimini with a hard top version to make
it so that we won't have to replace it again (at least not in my boat ownership
lifetime) and to provide a smooth base for mounting semi-flexible solar panels.
Have any of you done this yourself?
I found this company selling ones the make:  Photos | Hard To Top

Photos | Hard To Top Hard to Top boat hardtops are custom made for
each boat's specifications and are attached to the boat's ...
They quoted me $649 for a 6' x 9' top using my existing stainless frame.
Shipping was about $150 on top of that.

This seems pretty reasonable, but I'd like your thoughts.  Also, what do you
thing about the look of it?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,  Bruce Whitmore
