Racor 500 fuel filter tops can warp over time allowing air to leak in. If the T-handle is over-tightened, it can cause the top to become concave. Lay a flat across the underside of the top and see if the center is depressed (raised if the top is upside down). If so, you can't tighten the T-handle enough to seal the gasket.
Also, the gasket can leak if old. Replace it often. Dennis C.
