Guys, Harken Rudder Bearings are different than the Delrin bearings installed on other boats. The Harken Bearings are roller bearings that have internal and external races and need to be replaced in pairs (upper and lower) to get proper alignment. Edson, for a while, made replacement bearings when Harken got out of the rudder bearing business and subsequently Edson, too, stopped making roller rudder bearings because of the difficulty in producing workable seals to keep the water out.
As such, the only company I know making a replacement style bearing for the Harken units is Jefa, distributed by PYI in the US and Canada. A call to their offices in Washington State (talk to Fred or Phil) should shed some light on the replacement costs and process. It would be handy to know the stock number of the Harken bearing installed on your boat just to make for an easier match up. I can't speak for the C&C 44, but the rudder bearings on my 37+ were Delrin. I used a jig saw and split the bearings at approximately 90 degrees apart. A couple of taps and the bearings came right out.
