Brian, I used to do that (removed the batteries, take them home, etc.), but apparently, if they are properly charged, they would last the whole winter. If anything, the low temperatures are good for their health. If they are not self discharging, they would not freeze. make sure, though, that they are fully disconnected from the boat. A small parasitic load can destroy the batteries over that 5-6 month period.
For the last 4 years I keep the batteries in the boat and I did not notice any difference. At the spring commissioning, they are still at about 85%-90% SoC.
