Hello all, While I might get roundly criticized for this, we had an old hydraulic autopilot that had died and needed to be replaced. I think it might have been a Navtech. It was connected to an Octopus hydraulic ram, and it had a small control box mounted on the ram itself. I was told by Octopus that the ram would not be compatible with new autopilots, and was specific to the old system, so I was looking at having to replace the ram as well as the brains of the unit.
I went with the Raymarine EV-100. As I started to look at the ram, I removed the little control box and found that the wires and circuit board eventually resulted in 2 pins going into the ram. So, I tried simply created a pin connector and ran the resulting wires back to the control box on the EV-100. Works perfectly. So, I did not have to replace the ram. If you don't have a ram in place now, this won't help but... As I understand it the AC 100 is not compatible with the drive and I’ll have to go with the AC 100. Raymarine offered a modest discount with the trade in. As I remebmber it was $400 plus the old AC100. No idea about the Octopus drive. Any suggestions as to a source for the tiller arm? Wondering if the acu-100 is compatible with the octopus type RS? Has anyone done this conversion? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
