When I first bought Windstar, I had a terrible, intermittent BANG - BANG - BANG in fwd only. To address, I consulted a local yard, to whom I paid many many boat bucks to:
1) Replace the very worn martec prop with a folding Gori. 2) Replace tired (one cracked) motor mounts 3) Replace shaft and cutlass bearing. 4) Resecure strut. This did not solve the problem. (They kept the money.) I finally figured out that it was the transmission slipping. (basically a conical male bronze hub mates with a corresponding female steel hub to engage the engine. when the surfaces glaze over time the necessary friction is reduced and the mating surfaces slip. Bang bang bang. The fix took one afternoon, around $30 worth of materials. I had the transmission out, apart, surfaces lapped to deglaze, reassembled and reinstalled back in the boat. No issue since. Also, the strut – but if it was shaking that much, you would probably have water too! My rope cutter was making sounds last summer, with a missing bolt. It sounded like a crab float was bouncing off of the hull. we slowed and the noise became quieter. Thinking there was actually something thumping on the hull we came to a complete stop and even backed up some, no help. We spent the weekend anchored in Liberty Bay. on the way home the same noise, I looked at the rudder quadrant and could not see anything. Upon arrival back at my slip I dove on the boat and could not see anything unusual. > Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. > Thanks in advance > > Doug > > -- > Douglas Mountjoy > 253-208-1412 > Port Orchard YC, WA > Rebecca Leah > C&C LandFall 39 > _______________________________________________ > > Thanks everyone for supporting this list with your contributions.
