Arapahoe County: --A possible Least Tern was reported by Latona on the east shore of Cooley Lake in South Platte Park on June 12. To get to South Platte Park, take S. Santa Fe Drive and turn west on Mineral Ave. Go one block and turn right onto S. Platte River Parkway. There is parking by the Carson Nature Center. Boulder County: --Dunning reported that the male SCARLET TANAGER has returned to Gregory Canyon on May 28. It was seen on the Gregory Canyon Trail in Boulder about 100 yards further uphill from pole #50. On June 13, Arnold reported that the SCARLET TANAGER was still in the area. --A White-winged Dove was reported by Sumner in the Gunbarrel area of Boulder on June 1. You might try looking for the bird in Gunbarrel Commons Park which is west of 63rd St between Nottingham Gate and Gunbarrel Ave. Pieplow reported the White-winged Dove in the Gunbarrel area on June 10. --A singing KENTUCKY WARBLER was reported by Andes-Georges in the Gregory Canyon parking lot on June 5. Pieplow confirmed by sight and sound the identification on June 6. Ackert and Kilpatrick reported seeing and hearing the KENTUCKY WARBLER the morning of June 11. The bird was much more cooperative and was seen by many birders on June 11. --A singing Northern Parula was reported by Nunes in Cottonwood Trees behind City of Boulder's Open Space office at 66 S. Cherryvale on June 10. --A singing Ovenbird was reported by Nunes near the intersection of the North Shanahan Trail and the Mesa Trail in Boulder first on May 26 and again on June 11. Chaffee County: --A Black Phoebe was reported by Luke in Salida at the bridge crossing the Arkansas River at Spiral Drive on June 8 and June 10. --A Black Phoebe was reported by Woodson in Salida at the end of F Street by the Arkansas River on June 9. --An EASTERN MEADOWLARK and possible Baird's Sparrow were reported by Moss in Salida near the intersection of Feather Lane and CR 156 in the Pinon Hills Subdivision on June 10. Delta County: --3 Caspian Terns were reported by Horn at Hart's Basin by the ne pond on June 8. --A COMMON BLACK-HAWK was spotted by Beason circling above Hotchkiss the morning of June 12. Denver County: --A Green Heron was reported by Mulholland at Overland Lake Park on a small pond and it flew over to the golf course to a larger pond on June 12. Overland Lake Park is at S Santa Fe Dr and Florida. Fremont County: --Teuton reported that the RED-THROATED LOON found by Rich Miller on May 19 at Brush Hollow Reservoir continues at least through June 11. --Luke reported a Rufous-crowned Sparrow at Tunnel Drive in Canon City on June 8. --Luke refound the nesting Eastern Phoebes on the Canon City Riverwalk on June 10 which were first reported by Moss on May 24. Larimer County: --A female Rose-beasted Grosbeak was banded by Rashid at the YMCA banding station in Estes Park on June 10. Mesa County: --An Indigo Bunting was reported by Beason along the Colorado River on June 9. Beason also reported evidence of Black-throated Sparrows nesting along the river. Montrose County: --A Yellow-throated Vireo was reported by a Canadian visitor named Boyle in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison on June 9. It was half way between the parking area and Rock Point. San Miguel County: --Scott's Orioles and Black-throated Sparrows were reported by Dexter in western San Miguel County on June 8. The orioles were found in Little Gypsum Valley and the sparrows in both Big Gypsum and Little Gypsum Valleys. To access the area take CO 141 to CR 20R which is north of Gypsum Gap. This will be be Big Gypsum Valley. Little Gypsum is about 15 miles further on CR 20R at CR 10Y. Look for pinyon/juniper. The best map for the area is DeLorme p 64. The DFO field trip for Sunday, June 14 will be to the Lyons Area led by Raymond Davis (303-823-5332). Meet the leader at 0830 at the Lyons Park n' Ride, 1/2 block south of the traffic light on the Main Street. Bring lunch to enjoy at Davis's deck. Moderate amount of leisurely walking.
