Some of you might be interested in this website. Back in June, 14
short-eared owls were fitted with satellite transmitters near Nome, AK.
Researchers did not know if they would head toward Russia or down the
coast. I was very excited when I saw a couple tracking towards CO, hoping
they would show up at the Rocky Mt Arsenal NWR. But they have overshot us
and in one case already hit Mexico. One bird looks like it is on the
Pawnee. Since they frequently will communally roost, it begs the question
whether the owl is in the company of others. Anyway, the main website
(seaturtle.org) is about transmittered seaturtles and you have to scroll
down to Migratory Movements of Short-eared Owls (Asio flammeus). You can
sign up for daily track reports. Enjoy, Mindy
