Well, it wasn't actually a fight, more like a mugging...
 
   A couple of days ago a male flicker landed at the edge of my  deck.  As 
he leaned over slightly to peer over the edge a second male  flicker, which 
had just landed about 6 feet behind him, flew at him quickly  and bit him on 
the butt, sending up a small shower of fluff feathers..  The  victim flew 
to the fence while the attacker rubbed his beak on the deck to  remove the 
feathers that were still stuck in it.
 
   I had observed one-way antagonism between two male flickers  earlier in 
the day, I'm guessing this was a continuation of that behavior.
