Dear Cobirders,
Nick Komar will post more on this topic later including photos, but I
thought I would just quickly post that the bird initially identified
as a Black-tailed Gull yesterday was relocated this morning (12/26) at
Thomas Reservoir. The bird was observed by many and photographs were
obtained that strongly suggest that this individual is, in fact, an
aberrant California Gull with retained, strong, black second-cycle
retrices on an otherwise third-cycle bird. I'd like to thank everyone
who came by to see this neat bird. I hope that folks also had a
chance to stop by other nearby reservoirs and see the wonderful
gallery of Gulls on display today including, a Glaucous Gull, some
variety of Glaucous-winged hybrid, immature Lesser and Greater Black-
backed Gulls, many Herring Gulls including at least one individual
that looked good for Vega Gull, and the usual suspects.

Cheers,
Walter Szeliga
