Boulder County:
--A 1st-cycle GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL and a Thayer's Gull were reported by
Floyd at Thomas Reservoir on December 26. Thomas Reservoir is on 119th St in
Erie. On December 29, Sanders reported an juv GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL at
Thomas Reservoir.
--An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Sanders at Erie Reservoir
on December 29.
--Gray-crowned Rosy-finches with a few Hepburns were reported by Waltman at
Fawn Brook Inn in Allenspark on December 27. On December 29, Birchmeier and
Sanders reported Gray-crowned Rosy-finches and Black Rosy-Finches at Fawnbrook
Inn.
--A male Mandarin Duck was seen on the Boulder CBC by Plage on December 20 and
was seen again by Plage on December 27 near the Boulder Airport. Take Airport
Blvd to the east end and scope ponds from south of the office bldg at 5660
Airport Blvd. The Mandarin Ducks was seen on January 1 by Byers.
Broomfield County:
--An imm GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was reported by Kibbe on a pond on the east
side of Lowell south of CO 7 directly across from the intersection of Anthem
Ranch Road and Lowell Blvd on December 30.
Denver County:
--A pair of Barrow’s Goldeneye was reported by Henwood along the S.
Platte River just north of the bridge on W. Evans Ave on December 14.
On December 30, Beltz reported the 1 male Barrrow's Goldeneyes just downstream
of the Florida Bridge.
Douglas County:
--A f American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Walbek above Sedalia on
December 18. Go west on Hwy 67 from Sedalia to .2 miles east of Rampart Range
Road. Stachowiak found 2 American Three-toed Woodpeckers in the same location
on December 19. Steve Miller reported 3 American Three-toed Woodpeckers (2f,
1m) in the area on January 1.
El Paso County:
--A possible immature SNOWY OWL was reported by Cipoletti on Hwy 24 east of
Elbert Road on December 27. This is between Falcon and Peyton.
--Lapland Longspurs were reported by Ceci Lee in the SW corner of Elbert Road
and Latigo Blvd on December 28.
--A Winter Wren was reported by Maynard at Fountain Creek Regional Park on
January 1.
Jefferson County:
--A juv GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was reported by Brown behind the Trading Post at
Red Rocks on December 19 and was seen by several birders. The sparrow was seen
on January 1 by Hendwood. Chavez and Kibbe suggest bringing some bird seed
and scattering it to attrack the birds.
Larimer County:
--A pair of White-winged Crossbills was reported by Leatherman in Grandview
Cemetery in Fort Collins on November 22. The pair was seen on December 28 by
Steve Miller in the west end of section E.
--A f Long-tailed Duck was reported by Kaempfer on the Loveland CBC at Dry
Creek Reservoir on January 1. Dry Creek Reservoir is west of Berthoud and SE
of Carter Lake.
--An ad Lesser Black-backed Gull and 1st-cycle GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL were
reported by Kaempfer on the Loveland CBC at Carter Lake on January 1.
--A Field Sparrow was reported by Kaempfer on the Loveland CBC on CR 8E about 2
miles west of CR 23 on January 1.
--A Common Redpoll was reported by Bruce and Renee Baker on the Loveland CBC on
January 1. The bird was at a feeder at 4008 Sunset Drive, Stout, CO (corner of
Sunset & Hillside). Homeowners said that birders are welcome. Stout is
located near the SE corner of Horsetooth Reservoir (South Bay) which is west of
Fort Collins. Turn south on Lakeview Drive, then west on Sunset.
Mesa County:
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Korte in the 2400 block of Mesa Ave in
Grand Junction on December 25.
Pueblo County:
--At Pueblo Reservoir on December 29, Rich Miller reported a pair of
Long-tailed Ducks by the dam and at the South Shore Marina tires an ad Lesser
Black-backed Gull and an ad GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL.
Rio Grande County:
--An American Bittern was reported by Nehring at the Rio Grande SWA on December
26. The SWA is north of the canal at Home Lake.
Summit County:
--About 85 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Nims at the Blue River
(Silverthorne) Water Treatment Plant on December 28.

The DFO field trip for Sunday, January 3 will join the Boulder Bird Club for
First Sunday Birding at Walden Ponds from 9 am to noon. From Denver go west on
US 36 to Foothills Parkway Exit (CO 157), then north to Arapahoe Ave to 75h
St., then north on 75th past Valmont and the railroad track. Turn left aat
Wildlife Habitat sign. Follow road to Cottonwood Marsh parking lot. Pete
Plage will lead the trip.
