Disclaimer: I do not endorse any of the products listed here, nor do
I work for any of the companies representing these apps. This is just
for information only and my opinion only.

I have an iphone and use iBird Explorer Plus. There is also an iBird
Explorer Pro. You can look at http://www.ibirdexplorer.com/ for a
comparison of iBird to other apps, as well as compare the Plus and Pro
versions. Plus is $19.99 and PRO is $29.99.

I also have Sibley (a late-comer to the app world). Because I am more
used to iBird, I tend to use it more than Sibley. iBird has drawings
as well as photos of most birds. Sibley has the drawings that are so
wonderful in the Sibley Field Guides, but no photos. iBird indexes by
LastName, FirstName, or Family. Sibley gives a taxonomic index as
well as alpha index by bird type (bluebird, blackbird, etc).

I also use the Birdjam Iphone app. You need to have purchased
Birdjam (the Thayer and Stokes CD’s) for your pc. Then you can
download it to your itouch and use the app to play bird sounds on your
itouch. iBird has bird sounds, but not as extensive as BirdJam.

I just got BirdsEye which helps you locate birds locally. I haven't
really used it yet, so can't comment. However, I just checked it and
it is showing a Pacific Loon that I heard about over the weekend in my
area.
