Last night after working late in my study I heard quite clearly the hoots of great horned owls. I have heard these quite often before probably coming from Dry Creek Open Space which is just a street beyond our house in Bradburn Village, Westminster. But last night it was so loud that I went to investigate. Outside the door I notice the sounds were coming from a street or so over in the neighborhood, not the cottonwoods in the open space. Feeling weird walking through alleys and streets at 12:15 AM with binoculars, I tried to get closer to the sounds. I found the two owls perched on a roof top (steep point of the roof) about 2 feet apart calling to each other. Not surprisingly I saw no rabbits scurrying about as I usually do when I go out at night. Hopefully the owls will help control the over population of the rabbits.
