Arapahoe County:
--At Cherry Creek SP Walbek reported 1 Glaucous Gull (1-st cyc) and 2
Thayer's Gulls (1-st cyc) on February 28.
Boulder County:
--An ad TUNDRA SWAN was reported by Nunes at Cottowood Marsh on February
15. Plage reported that the TUNDRA SWAN continues at Cottonwood Marsh
through February 25.
--At Upper Ward, the BBC field trip led by Kaempfer had 25 Brown-capped
Rosy-Finches and 1 Hepburn's Gray-crowned Rosy Finch on February 25. On
March 2 Deininger again reported Brown-capped and Gray-crowned
Rosy-Finches in Upper Ward.
--A Winter Wren was reported by Heinrich on February 24 flitting across
Left Hand Creek 1.9 miles up Left Hand Canyon Drive from Buckingham Park.
There is a pull-off lot with a sign that says "Restrooms 1.9 miles
Buckingham Park"
--A Harris's Sparrow was reported by Floyd on the west shore of McCall
Lake on March 2..
--The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW continues near the Teller Farm Parking lot
on Valmont at least through March 3 as reported by Mlodinow.
--A 3-rd cyc Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Mlodinow at
Baseline Reservoir on March 3.
Crowley County:
--At Lake Henry on February 26, an ad Glaucous Gull was reported by
Floyd.
Delta County:
--A flock of Barrow's Goldeneyes was reported by Robinsong at the bend
of the Gunnison River between the Boat Ramp of Confluence Park and the Hwy
50 Bridge on February 20. On February 22, Beason reported 7 Barrow's
Goldeneyes on the Gunnison River near the Boat Launch of Confluence Park.
On February 25, Garrison reported 6 or 7 Barrow's Goldeneyes off the boat
ramp at Confluence Park.
Garfield County:
--9 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Filby on the Roaring fork below
Catherine Store road bridge near Carbondale on February 29
--2 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Filby on private ponds at Ranch
at Roaring Fork in Carbondale on February 29.
Huerfano County:
--4 TUNDRA SWANS were reported by Nelder at Lathrop State Park on
February 26.
Jefferson County:
--The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at the Red Rocks Trading Post feeders
continues to be seen thru March 3 as reported by Henwood.
--On March 2, Henwood reported that all 3 species of Rosy-Finches were
seen at the Red Rocks Trading Post feeders. There were 25 - 30 birds.
--On February 21, Henwood found the 2 Harris's Sparrows (1ad, 1 1-st yr)
near the Boat Launch Area at Bear Creek Lake Park.
On March 3, Henwood reported the ad Harris's Sparrow near the Boat
Launch area at Bear Creek Lake Park.
--The Greater Roadrunner has been reported by a bus driver and Kemena on
the west side of Dinosaur ridge on February 24 and 25. Leatherman reported
the Greater Roadrunner on Dinosaur ridge on February 28 and on February 29
by the Boulder Bird Club in the same area as on February 28.
LaPlata County:
--Arnold refound the VARIED THRUSH at the Durango Fish Hatchery on
February 29.
--4 ACORN WOODPECKERS were reported by Arnold at the Rafter J
subdivision of Durango on February 29.
Larimer County:
--A VARIED THRUSH has been visiting the yard of Steve Martin in
Wellington on February 11 and 12. The VARIED THRUSH was last seen on
February 29. Please contact Steve at falconridge AT cowisp.net for more
information.
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Cropper near Cattail Pond in
Loveland on February 25.
Mesa County:
--A f Long-tailed Duck was reported by Arnold upstream on the Colorado
River from Ela Sanctuary in Grand Junction on February 14 and was refound
by Arnold on February 25 in the same spot. It is easily viewed from
Hunter's Point of Ela.
Otero County:
--On Higbee Valley Road on February 26, Floyd reported Rufous-crowned
Sparrow and Chichuahuan Raven.
Pitkin County:
--30+ Brown-capped Rosy-Finches and 20+ Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches were
reported by Filby at Snowmass on February 29.
Pueblo County:
--On February 20, Percival reported 1 Black Phoebe and 2 White-throated
Sparrows west of the Pueblo Nature Center and 1 Winter Wren and 1 Black
Phoebe east of the nature center. On February 25, the Arkansas Valley
Audubon field trip to the Pueblo Nature Center reported a male Northern
Cardinal and 2 White-throated Sparrows to the west and a Black Phoebe to
the east.
--A male Mexican Duck first found on 1 January continues at Duck Pond
in Pueblo City Park as reported by Percival on February 26 and seen again
by Percival on February 29.
--A pair of YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS was reported by Percival at Pueblo
City Park on February 29.
San Juan County:
--2 Brown-capped Rosy-Finches were reported by Arnold in Silverton on
February 29.
Summit County:
--6 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Blackburn at the Silverthorne
Water Treatment Facility on February 12. On February 24, Kibbe reported 10
Barrow's Goldeneyes at the Silverthorne Water Treatment Facility.
--All three species of Rosy-Finches were reported by Kibbe on Elk
Thistle Drive on February 24.
Weld County:
--On February 28, Smith reported that a SNOWY OWL flew over Highlandlake
and headed south towards Union Reservoir
The DFO field trip for Sunday, March 4th will be to the Wheat Ridge
Greenbelt led by Tom Parchman (303-274-7951). Meet the leader at 0800
at Prospect Park in Wheat Ridge for a half day trip. Bring water and
snacks; dress appropriately, in layers for weather. From I-70 exit 267
take Kipling south about 3/4 of a mile and turn right (west) on 44th
Avenue. Go one mile west. Look for the entrance to Prospect Park on your
left (south). Meet just inside the park in the lot right next to the lake.
The walking is easy but may involve up to 3 miles of walking.
