There are untold thousands of cranes here this weekend. I say untold because I
can't even guess at the numbers. Most of the water areas are still frozen solid
with a few open areas here and there.
There are a few cranes roosting near the tour loop in the refuge, the
rest seem to be roosting west of hwy 15, just north of road 8S. There have been
some fabulous fly ins and outs, the best happening just after sunset Sat night
with thousands of cranes and Canada geese flying east to west over hwy 15.
There are untold tons of Canada geese and untold flocks of pintails and
untold scads of red winged blackbirds here. Of course, there are mallards and
different diving ducks here as well. There are also bald eagles, harriers, red
tailed hawks and prairie falcons.
There you have it!
Hope you can make it down here to enjoy it, Deb Carstensen, Arapahoe County.
