ARCHULETA COUNTY: --At Navajo SP on June 7, Mlodinow reported White-eyed Vireo and Cassin's Kingbird. BENT COUNTY: --A f COMMON GROUND DOVE and imm LAUGHING GULL were reported by Duane Nelson on the S side of dam of John Martin Reservoir on June 7. The gull has been seen at endangered species closure around the reservoir. For the ground dove go to the south side of dam, pass the kiosks by the entrance. Turn left immediately after entering the wildlife area, drive 1.5 miles west. Duane placed orange flagging on sunflower stalk on both sides of the road where it was found. BOULDER COUNTY: --A Black and Eastern Phoebe were reported by Gent at the 75th St Bridge over Boulder Creek on May 31. On June 1, Steadman reported both phoebes continue catching insects at west side of 75th St Bridge. One June 2, Sanders reported the Black Phoebe on the north side of Boulder Creek at 75th. On June 3, Siebert reported that the Black Phoebe continues at 75th on the west side of the bridge. On June 4, Starace reported Black Phoebe, Eastern Phoebe, and Indigo Bunting near 75th and Boulder Creek. On June 7, Gent reported Black and Eastern Phoebe on the west side of the 75th St. Bridge. --A Rocky Mountain form of American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Waltman at Rocky Mountain National Park on the trail just a bit NW of Copeland Lake. on June 9. --A Slate-colored Fox Sparrow was reported by Waltman at intersection of Peak-to-Peak highway CO 72 and CR 103 on June 9. EL PASO COUNTY: --A singing m Indigo Bunting was reported by Barnes at Cheyenne Mountain SP on June 7. FREMONT COUNTY: --A LEAST BITTERN was reported by Rich Miller at Holcim Wetlands on June 10. On June 12, Moss reported that Holcim Wetlands is CLOSED to entry due to high water. JEFFERSON COUNTY: --A Blue-winged Warbler was reported by Jones at Welchester Tree Grant Park on May 22. On May 23, Shade reported that the Blue-winged Warbler continued at Welchester and it was seen by many other birders. On May 24, Willis reported that the Blue-winged Warbler continues at Welchester. On May 25, Schmidt reported the Blue-winged Warbler at Welchester Tree Park in mid-afternoon. On May 26, Edwards reported that the Blue-winged Warbler was singing at Welchester and the birds was seen my many birders on May 26. On May 27, Roller reported that the Blue-winged Warbler continues at Welchester Tree Park. On May 28, Brower reported that the Blue-winged Warbler continues at Welchester Tree Park. No one has reported the Blue-winged Warbler to CoBirds recently but it has been reported on e-Bird the past three days. On June 1, Gent reported that the Blue-winged Warbler showed briefly at the east end but did not sing and Hopping reported that the Blue-winged Warbler did sing on June 1. The Blue-winged Warbler was reported on e-bird on June 7. On June 8, Stephanie Jones reported that the Blue-winged Warbler was still singing at Welchester but had moved west downstream to where the concrete bridge crosses the creek. On June 11, DeFonso reported that the Blue-winged Warbler was singing again from the private property to the east of the park. On June 12, Keirn reported that the Blue-winged Warbler sang for several birders at the east end of Welchester Tree Grant Park. --An ACORN WOODPECKER was reported Langel at Cheesman Reservoir with Red-headed Woodpeckers on June 7. On June 9, Roller reported a f ACORN WOODPECKER at the spot described by Langel. On June 10, DeFonso reported the ACORN WOODPECKER at the Stoney Pass Road site. Directions: area just north of Cheesman -- Forest Road 211 from Wigwam Creek to turnoff to Cheesman at top of hill, then west of FR 560 (Stoney Pass Road). Take Stoney Pass Road West when you get to Y stay to the right. There is a parking area on right and a second small parking down the hill. The ACORN WOODPECKER was hanging out with Red-headed on North side just West of parking area. LOGAN COUNTY: --At Tamarack Ranch on June 12 Mlodinow reported: heard a singing WOOD THRUSH 1/4 mile W of road from I-76 to Crook (CR 81); a Caroldina Wren near Headquarters/managers quarters; Indigo Bunting in fields in portion east of road to Crook near Areas 5 - 8; 4 Red-bellied Woodpeckers all east of road, Great Crested Flycatcher east of road near area 6 or 7; singing Bell's Vireos west of road; 7 Field Sparrows near Tamarack Pond south side of fields. --At Red Lion SWA on June 12, Mlodinow reported GLOSSY IBIS and Bell's Vireo in plum hedgerow along the road. MESA COUNTY: --Purple Martins were reported by Korte in the Hawkshurst Creek Area on June 9. MONTEZUMA COUNTY: --A calling pair of LEAST BITTERN was reported by Nick Moore at Denny Lake Park in Cortez on June 5. On June 10, Beatty heard the LEAST BITTERN at Denny Lake in the NE part of the lake. MONTROSE COUNTY: --A LESSER NIGHTHAWK and Least Tern were reported by Dexter 1 mile west of Nucla on a farm pond on May 26. The LESSER NIGHTHAWK was seen again the evening of May 28 by the farm pond. On May 29 De Fonso reported that the LESSER NIGHTHAWK was seen again by ag ponds along 5th Ave W of town. On June 3 Dexter reported 2+ LESSER NIGHTHAWKS W of Nucla. On June 8, Dunning reported LESSER NIGHTHAWK W of Nucla. On June 11, Dexter reported a f Lesser Nighthawk W of Nucla. PARK COUNTY: --A Great-tailed Grackle was reported bySuddjian at Lake George on June 9. PROWERS COUNTY: --A Golden-winged Warbler was reported by Hurtado at Lamar Community College Woods on June 6. --2 Least Terns were reported by Leatherman at Northgate Park E of Cow Palace Motel in Lamar on June 6 thru June 9. --2 Northern Cardinal nests were reported by Leatherman at LCCW on June 9. PUEBLO COUNTY: --A singing WOOD THRUSH was reported by Silverman on June 2 in Colorado City on South Parkway between Meadow Creek and Garden State Ave about 2 miles W of I-25 exit 74 and just S of Co 165. On June 4, Remsen reported the singing WOOD THRUSH on South Parkway. Turn S on South Parkway crossing Greenhorn Creek, park at swimming pool and walk short distance S to see and hear the thrush. WELD COUNTY: --A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported by Lefko at Glenmere Park in Greeley on June 8. On June 11, Mlodinow reported that the night-heron colony at Glenmere Park appeared to be abandoned. --A WOOD THRUSH was reported by Dowell at Crow Valley CG on June 12. It was S of Picnic Area near large double-trunked Cottonwood where creek passes under the fence. DFO Field Trips: The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, June 14 will be Roxborough State Park, Birding By Ear led by Alison Kondler. Space is limited. Preregister by calling 303-973-3959 during park business hours. Meet outside the Roxborough SP Visitor Center at 0700. Return time between 1100 and 1200. Whether new to birdsong identification or an expert, you will gain valuable knowledge as we walk and listen for birds. Habitat includes scrub oak, riparian, rock faces, and cliffs. Specific hiking trail to be determined on day of hike. This is a free program, but a State Parks pass or $7 day pass required. Please arrive on time and cancel ahead of time if you are not able to make it. Bring binocs, water, sturdy footwear, and snacks. Lunch optional. The DFO Field trip for Sunday, June 15 will be to Staunton State Park led by Ira and Tammy Sanders (303-278-7122). Limit 25 people; will be carpooling. Preregister with leaders. Meet at Morrison Park-n-Ride on the NW corner of C-470 and Morrison Road (CO 8) at 0630 for car-pooling. The drive is about 40 minutes up US 285 near Pine Junction. State Parks pass is needed or $7 at entrance. This will be a 3/4 day trip.
