----------------------------------------------------------- From: SecCode Message 8 in Discussion > You had mentioned one of the Cons for sql server managed sessions > A clustered SQL server as the State repository for true reliability. Cost.. Cost.. Cost... A clustered SQL server requires a specific hardware configuration that is rather expensive as well as the licensing cost of SQL Server for that configuration. > If the currently the performance gain of aspstate service is not > so much compared to sql managed session .. why did the team develop it. ? Choices. The ASP.NET team has always been about choices... And this option gives a choice that does not involve SQL Server. Which may be very viable for a company that has standardized on Oracle as the DB. The Database State Storage REQUIRES SQL Server 2000. The other thing you need to keep in mind is that enabling the State Service on an single box and pointing ONLY that machine to it ( i.e. Using the StateService instead of InProcess on a PER machine basis), allows state info to survive application recycling. > I cannot in anway see an advantage cause enterprise apps will be deployed > for a relaiabilty factor and only by the bigger players. LOL :-) In an ideal world this would be true.. But unfortunately we all live in the real world where budgets and politics all too often have an impact on how technical decisions are made. In short, everything is a trade-off, and your knowledge of the business environment and its needs will determine if the case you make for SQL Server vs other options is a valid one. I had to make my case to the business managers as they controlled the budget. They agreed with me.
