Cost.. Cost.. Cost... A clustered SQL server requires a specific hardware
configuration that is rather expensive as well as the licensing cost of SQL
Server for that configuration.

Choices. The ASP.NET team has always been about choices... And this option
gives a choice that does not involve SQL Server. Which may be very viable
for a company that has standardized on Oracle as the DB. The Database State
Storage REQUIRES SQL Server 2000. The other thing you need to keep in mind
is that enabling the State Service on an single box and pointing ONLY that
machine to it ( i.e. Using the StateService instead of InProcess on a PER
machine basis), allows state info to survive application recycling.

LOL :-) In an ideal world this would be true.. But unfortunately we all live
in the real world where budgets and politics all too often have an impact on
how technical decisions are made.  In short, everything is a trade-off, and
your knowledge of the business environment and its needs will determine if
the case you make for SQL Server vs other options is a valid one.  I had to
make my case to the business managers as they controlled the budget. They
agreed with me.
