I am new to the group, and I'm very lucky I found it. I have a
Cockapoo puppy, Dexter, who is nearly 8 months old. He is so sweet,
nice and well behaved (at least most of the time). The problem I am
having with him is submissive urination. He is potty trained except
when he gets excited. That is when the trouble starts....He pees on
anyone who he meets. It doesn't matter how long they take to
acknowledge him (i.e. sometimes he will pee while he is being
ignored, or sometimes he will wait to pee after a very slight
acknowledgement is made in an attempt to keep him from getting too
excited). It is getting really embarrassing for my 17 year old
daughter; she doesn't like to have friends over to be peed on by our
puppy. Now, Dexter doesn't do this on my daughter or me, even when
he gets excited to see us, but he does for everyone else, including
my two sons (in their 20s), all of our friends and neighbors. My vet
wants me to take Dexter to obedience classes again, thinking that may
help him. I took him to new puppy class when he was 4 months old for
5 weeks. He was the calmest dog in class and definitely one of the
most timid. He started having the submissive urination issue around
the same time as when I started taking him to class the first time
and it has gotten progressively worse for the past 3 months.
If you have any suggestions, I would be grateful. He seems like a
perfect pet to me except for this issue.
