Hi,
My name is Linda and I have a 14 week cockapoo named Windy that we
have had for a month now. By "we" I mean me and my 15 year old boy
and my 8 year old autistic boy.
We all just Adore our new puppy. She housetrained in a week and a
half and has been so friendly and loving. It seems like fate that we
found her---as I had been looking for a pure cocker spaniel but none
was to be found--and then I saw her picture on the internet. She came
from a great family and loves kids because she was raised with them.
I had a cockapoo for a few months when I was a child. It was a puppy
named Muffin. But my parents did not care for her very well, and
disregarded the rule about boarding a young puppy.
We went on a trip for a week and boarded Muffin and when we got back
she vomited. My parents took her to the vet and came back with an
empty cage. They told me they gave her to a farm...but 2 days later
they told me the truth, that they had her put to sleep. I made them
call to see if she was still alive but she was not.
I never found out what she had---but I know my mother did not want to
deal with either dog vomit or dog medication. It could have just been
worms. (My mom had a bad time on the vacation and probably wasn't
looking forward to puppy care again)
I always wondered what it would have been like to see Muffin grow up.
She had the sweetest little spirit I had ever met, and was the first
being that Really looked into my eyes.
Now, I have another cockapoo in my life, and she is Every Bit as sweet
as the first.
It is a chance to heal old wounds, and give all the Love I have had
pent up for 35 years to a wonderful little dog who really deserves it
and soaks it up.
And I can teach MY children, that dogs are a Part of the Family---not
a thing to be thrown away if it becomes inconvenient. You stick with
them if they are sick--you comfort them--not kill them (unless there
is NO other option) And even then you should do it with humanity--give
them love as they go. They trust and depend on us. We can't let them
down.
We got another dog eventually when I was young---a sheltie that my
parents kept in a kennel on the back porch.
Windy sleeps in my bed or my son's bed.
She is Part of Us.
(I loaded a couple of pics on the photo section---I will put more--she
lookes very different already)
*Bright Blessings*
Linda O.
