quality shaver (mine is Andis) and shave him all over. You can
totally shave him, you can shave the whole body, legs, etc and make a
cute "teddy bear" face with scissors. Cockapoos are actually one of
the easiest dogs to groom (23  yrs as assistant to a groomer).

mixed dog is better than a pure bred any day. No offence but a poodle
is a high strung, anxious, fairly often nippy breed. When it is mixed
with a cocker it just mellows that all out. Even if it is an
expensive mix like a yorkie poo, chipom, etc. That is why breeders
specialize in mixed breeds. Also, I felt obligated to point out that
cockapoo is actually a very expensive breed.

Thank you for your comments. I don't think I am down on the fact
that he is a cockapoo, just mad that she lied to us. If that is what
she was selling, then she should have told us. She even went so far
as to bring the "daddy" out to see us (solid black cocker spaniel
male). The female was buff like Pep but had the shorter nose, long
forehead, droopy eyes, long eyelashes, and she was very short.
His "dad" was tall and she kept him clipped because he loved to hunt
and be in the water. When we first got him, he most certainly could
have been full blood cocker. It has been as he is getting older that
he began to not have the cocker traits.
As for the grooming, I have to use only scissors because of his
skin. The reason that he has been banned from grooming is because of
the fact that the clippers cause a rash every where they touch. The
last grooming he had done (the 6th month old pics) two days later, he
broke out in a rash everywhere she had clipped him. He was miserable.
Pepper can be a bit on the excited side. He is fairly yappy if we
have to leave the house, but gets out his big boy bark if he thinks
someone is at the house that shouldn't be. He has a dominant
personality and tries to bully his "brother", our rescued lab mix
Bandit. Bandit is 30 lbs heavier than Pepper is, but yet he thinks
he can take him. LOL
