True, but he only uses NSSocketPort for the server, not for the client. I was unable to get it to work as a client also. It may be possible, but I wasn't able to get it working in the half hour or so that I played with it.

A few postings on the CocoaDev wiki suggest that the socket may be lazily initialized under current OS versions. Bottom line is that NSSocketPort is pretty clearly not intended to be used that way.
