Specifics are the key here. You can log iChat text rather easily, IIRC, via AppleScript. Just look at its scripting dictionary--it either supports it or it doesn't. As I recall, I could do this via the event callbacks in there, but it's been about 6 years since I had a need to do it. If you want to log any text in any chat app, that's an entirely different matter. On the topic of Input Managers, it would be fine with me if Apple did away with this blatant security hole altogether.
