Unless you're looking for a pure C solution which isn't dependent on any Mac OS libraries, you could always use CFXMLParser and it's SAX based callbacks.

I think I missed the original post, so forgive me if this is off- base... If you're willing to use a framework API such as CFXMLParser to parse a plist, which not go whole-hog and use CFPropertyList?
