Yep, that's the usual approach. What's the problem with subclassing? An unsubclassed NSWindowController isn't really all that useful. Why is subclassing so often referred to as "inelegant"? That's what OOP is for.

No problem with subclassing. It was just the presence of the '- initWithWindowNibName:owner:' method that tripped me off a little, as it seems near useless unless there is some undocumented magic behind it.
