The "Auto Enables Items" is checked.
When I control-click the menu item in IB, under "Sent Actions" it shows "delete:" (with the colon) linked to "First Responder".

(The "Cut" menu item is configured exactly the same way in the same drop down menu (with a different action) and it works.)

I made the connection in the IB by control-click/drag from the menu item to the "First Responder" and chose the "delete:" option. I'm not exactly sure how the choices are populated on First Responder. I don't see the "delete:" message on NSResponder, yet it shows up when I connect to "First Responder" in IB.

Is there a way to generate code from IB, or peer into the Nib file?

I wish that were the case. However, the validateUserInterfaceItem: message

Are you sure the menu on which the Delete item is located has its
"Auto Enables Items" (aka -autoenablesItems) setting checked in IB?

Also, have you double-checked that you didn't forget the colon when
specifying the delete: selector for the menu item? Previous versions
of IB would allow you to create a method whose selector did not have
any arguments.
